The maximum tax deduction allowed is Rs. 5,000, which is included in the overall limit of Rs. 25,000 for health insurance premiums paid for self and family. For senior citizens (above 60 years), the maximum tax deduction allowed is Rs. 10,000.

To avail of this tax benefit, the payment for the preventive health checkup should be made either through cash, cheque, or electronic mode, and the receipt for the same should be retained as proof of payment. The preventive health checkup should be conducted in India and should include tests that are prescribed by a medical practitioner.
